Celtic Colours Turns 30 This October: A Cape Breton Road Trip Guide
Publié 4 septembre 2026
The Celtic Colours International Festival hits its 30th year this October, running October 9 to 17, 2026, with concerts and community events spread across 36 communities all over Cape Breton Island. If you're planning to catch even a few shows, you're going to be doing some driving — and fall is a great time to make sure your ride is up for it.
A Festival Built for Road Trips
Unlike a lot of festivals that stay in one spot, Celtic Colours spreads more than 275 events across the whole island, from Port Hawkesbury to Sydney to Cheticamp. That means fans end up crisscrossing Cape Breton all week, often stacking two or three communities in a single day. A comfortable, reliable vehicle isn't a nice-to-have here — it's part of the plan.
Cabot Trail Meets Festival Season
October is one of the best months to be on the Cabot Trail, with fall colour peaking right around festival week. If you're combining Celtic Colours with a scenic drive, our guide on driving the Cabot Trail in a Hyundai covers what to know before you go, from fuel stops to road conditions this time of year.
Check Your Tires Before You Go
Fall roads in Cape Breton can turn wet and leafy fast, especially on the back routes between festival venues. Worn tread is the last thing you want on a dark October drive home from a concert in Baddeck or Iona. If it's been a while, our tire team can check your tread and pressure in a few minutes.
Thinking About an Upgrade Before Festival Week
If your current vehicle isn't cutting it for island-wide driving, now's a good time to look. A Hyundai Tucson or Santa Fe handles the hills and curves around the Highlands with room for passengers and gear. Browse our new Hyundai inventory and book a test drive before the festival crowds hit the roads.
Get Service-Ready
Between festival driving and the fall weather starting to turn, it's worth getting your vehicle looked at now rather than mid-October. Our service team in Sydney can handle a quick pre-trip check so you're not troubleshooting on the side of the road during festival week.
Plan Your Route, We'll Handle the Rest
Whether you're a local heading to a handful of shows or driving in from off-island, Cape Breton Hyundai is happy to help you get road-ready. Contact our team in Sydney with any questions, and enjoy the 30th year of one of the best reasons to explore this island in the fall.
